Kati got to know what our needs were and treated us how I imagine she treats her family. The home buying process can be overwhelming and stressful but she made it a walk in the park. First time homebuyers, doing it all on our own (no financial assistance from family) looking for a property in Southern California. We had been in the market for a house for about 3 years and had been pre-approved by Rocket Mortgage as well as a large local mortgage brokerage. In both cases, our pre-approvals lapsed before we could find a property we could afford. I subsequently grew frustwith both mortgage companies as they hounded us to re-apply. Rocket Mortgage was especially aggressive making calls repeatedly, even after I asked them to take me off their list. Moreover, our Rocket representative dodged questions such as whether we were officially "pre-approved" (credit underwritten) or "pre-qualified" (basic noncommittal income review). We shopped around and discovered Costco offered a mortgage referral program (which ended in 2022). We requested a connection and heard back from a bank called NBKC out of Missouri. I was initially hesitant to work with a lender so geographically distant from our market area, but once I talked with NBKC representative Mark Quinn, my fears went away. Not only was Mark friendly, professional, and transparent on NBKC fees, he was also familiar with California lending requirements and regulations. I was struck by how differently Mark treated us when compared to our prior mortgage reps. He didn't try to encourage us to take out a loan we couldn't afford or rush us through the process- we always felt in control. Then the pandemic happened. As we watched house prices skyrocket out of reach, we found our pre-approval with NBKC lapse over and over again. Mark was always empathetic with our situation, and repeatedly pre-approved us on request, never making us feel guilty or rushing us to pull the trigger. To add to our pain, we were using random Redfin agents to tour properties, which was kind of like having an Uber driver help you make the biggest financial decision of your life. Eventually I caved and reached out to a local buyer's agent who had been hounding me for years. Immediately he began to pressure us to view properties out of our budget and to make offers over asking on properties that were pulled after failing to sell. This same agent also made an effort to supplant NBKC as our lender with his partner brokerage, despite my upfront non-negotiable that NBKC would be our lender. After a particularly intense pitch session where he initiated a 3-way call with his lender and they tagged team trying to convince me to go with their lending, I called Mark for guidance. As expected, Mark was attentive and professional and offered to introduce us to Kelly, a buyer's agent he knew in California that may be able to help us. As it turns out, Kelly was amazing and was the deciding factor that allowed us to "level up" and finally get responses from our offers! Kelly and Mark worked together promptly to generate pre-approval letters for our offers and Mark consistently demonsturgency to fulfill requests, no matter how many times we were outbid. I went through my email history, and initially we connected to NBKC on 04/19/19. I am very happy to report that we are scheduled to close on our property on 08/10/23, almost 4 years and 4 months after our first pre-approval request with NBKC. Mark has been the singular constant through this entire process and I am so grateful to him and NBKC for sticking with us through the ups and downs. I highly recommend Mark Quinn of NBKC for mortgage lending.
