"Emergency Assist - Avoid this Company !!!!"

This is a disgraceful company and I would advise any potential customers to consider carefully before they purchase...Following an incident on the A14 at Kettering, I was stuck in a jam for 2 hours. When the Traffic finally moved at 3pm, my vehicle would not start, so I requested the assistance of Emergency Assist. I explained my predicament, emphasising that I was on the edge of the A14 with huge Articulated Trucks buffetting my vehicle at 60+ MPH. After waiting for an hour, I phoned for an update, without hesitation, I was asked if I wanted to cancel my request at a cost of $97. Clearly my vehicle was stranded and cancelling the recovery was not an option. At 4 pm I phoned again for an update, again I was asked if I wanted to cancel the assistance request at a cost of $97. At 4.30pm and 5pm I phoned for an update and the same question was asked by the representative. It would appear that Emergency Assist main aim is to get members to finally loose patience and cancel assistance requests, always at a cost to them of $97. Finally, at 5.30pm, I received a call from the Recovery Driver, who informed me that he had been stuck in Traffic on the M1 motorway near Burton on Trent for over an hour. His location was approximately 60 miles away from my Vehicle. Why on earth would Emergency Assist appoint a Recovery Agent 60 miles from my broken down vehicle ? ... The driver said it would take him at least 2 hours to get to my vehicle and that would be after his traffic jam had finally cleared. I again phoned Emergency Assist and asked for an explanation, their only interest was again the inevitable question, did I want to cancel the recovery request at $97. Whilst I was on the call the Police arrived and within a few minutes, they applied a booster to my Battery and started my Car... I informed the Emergency Assist representative, who was still on the phone, that I was finally going to cancel my recovery request. I was immediately informed that I would be billed $97 for the cancelled Recovery. I made it clear that I would not Pay any charges regardless of their threat to take legal action. I subsequently formalised a complaint, which they totally ignored, with Emergency Assist, accepting no responsibility for their incompetence. Emergency Assist did not progress their threat of action, nor did I pay the $97. I would advise any prospective customer of Emergency Assist, to think carefully before purchasing a Breakdown Recovery policy with this disgraceful company. My Policy expires this Month and I will not be renewing.

"Worst company ever, avoid avoid avoid!!"

Literally the worse experience of customer service I have ever experienced, and I am 42 years old! I didn't have the card on me, though I did have bank details, so they wouldn't send someone, even though I told them I had a type one diabetic child who was in hypo in the car with me, I am 100% cancelling!!!

"Read the negative reviews!"

This company has abysmal ethics, their policies are written to deceive people. Regulators stamped out this kind of behaviour years ago but EA seem to think it doesn't apply to them. Read the negative reviews, they are all over the internet. Take away all the 5 star reviews from people who have just judged them on how easy it was to take out a policy and you will see the true picture - these people have not had the misfortune of calling EA out to a breakdown yet. YOU ARE NOT COVERED FOR PUNCTURES, UNLESS YOU HAVE TAKEN ADDITIONAL ACCIDENT COVER OR PAY AN IMMEDIATE MINIMUM FEE OF $125 (I know of no other breakdown company that classes punctures as accidents without telling you that fact BEFORE you take out a policy) EVEN PREMIUM COVER DOES NOT COVER YOU Ignore their FAQ's that state that all cover levels cover you for punctures - THEY DON'T! There are numerous examples on the internet of people who have been left roadside without assistance, with children in the car, elderly/disabled people, women on their own late at night - EA will use every trick in the book to avoid coming out to you, and this appears to be for multiple different scenarios, not just punctures. This happened to me and I'm in the industry and read policy wordings closely. THERE IS A REASON THAT MARTIN LEWIS WON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY! THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS.It is NOT standard policy amongst breakdown insurance companies to class punctures as 'accidents', they try to tell you this but it is not true.Report them to regulators. They should not be allowed to continue trading with their ambiguous policy wordings. I have an ongoing complaint case with them to get my premium back. I cancelled my policy the day after they left me stranded and went with RAC - only $20 more with a voucher incentive (they nearly always have good offers running). Do yourself a favour and stay well away from Emergency (sorry, we can't) Assist Ltd.
